Detailed Instructions to Authors

1. Submission

Paper submissions and reviews for ICDAR2017 will be handled through the EasyChair conference management system. If you are new to EasyChair, you should create an account first.

2. Paper Format and Length

Papers should be formatted with the style files/details available at Manuscript Templates for Conference Proceedings. Paper size is US letter. A complete paper should be submitted in the proper format. Papers accepted for the conference will be allocated 6 pages in the proceedings, with the option of purchasing up to 2 extra pages for JPY 10,000 per page. This will have to be paid after paper acceptance and at the time of registration. The length of the submitted manuscript should match that intended for final publication. Therefore, if you are unwilling or unable to pay the extra charge you should limit yourself to 6 pages. Otherwise the page limit is 8 pages. This FAQ helps LaTeX users.

3. Double blind review

ICDAR reviewing is double blind, in that authors do not know the names of the reviewers of their papers, and the reviewers also don't know the author details. Authors are advised not to provide information that may identify them in the acknowledgments (e.g., co-workers and grant IDs). Also avoid providing links to websites that reveal your identity.

Authors should not write their names, affiliation and any other information explicitly in the paper. If you are referring to your own past papers/work, do refer to them as third person.

Eg.
Correct way: "XYZ et al [14] show that ...."
Incorrect way: "In our earlier work [14], ...."

4. Dual Submissions

By submitting a manuscript to ICDAR2017, authors acknowledge that it has not been previously published or accepted for publication in substantially similar form in any peer-reviewed venue including journals, conferences or workshops. Furthermore, no paper substantially similar in content has been or will be submitted to a journal, another conference or workshop during the review period (March-2017 - July-2017). Note that such a definition does not consider a Technical Report or an item in self-archive repositories (departmental, arXiv.org, etc.) that is put up without any form of direct peer-review as a publication.

5. IAPR Ethical Requirements for Authors

By submitting a manuscript to ICDAR2017, authors agree to adhere the IAPR Statement of Ethics. The IAPR requires that all authors wishing to present a paper declare that:

  • The paper is substantially original and that no paper substantially similar in content has been submitted or will be submitted to any other conference or journal during the ICDAR2017 review period.
  • The paper does not contain any plagiarism, and
  • The paper will be presented by the author or a co-author in person.

The IAPR retains the right to eliminate any papers in violation of these requirements and to exclude the authors of such papers from future IAPR community activities.

The full IAPR Statement of Ethics can be found here.

6. Rebuttal Instructions

The author rebuttal is optional and it is meant to provide authors with an opportunity to rebut factual errors in the reviews or to supply additional information requested by the reviewers. It is NOT intended to add new contributions (theorems, algorithms, experiments) or respond to the reviewers' comments, but to point out any factual errors in the reviews.

7. Registration

The acceptance of a paper to ICDAR requires that at least one of the authors registers for the conference and presents the paper there.

8. Supplementary Files

ICDAR2017 does not allow submission of any additional supplementary file.
