========== Call for Hosting Proposals: TC-10 / TC-11 Summer School 2016 ====
Call for Hosting Proposals for the TC10/TC11 Summer School
----------------------------------------------------------
*** Submission Deadline extended! ***
Part of the mission of IAPR TC11 and TC10 is to promote high quality
educational activities related to Reading Systems and Graphics Recognition.
Responding to this need, TC10 and TC11 are soliciting proposals for the
organisation of the first "IAPR TC10/TC11 Summer School" during 2016.
The "IAPR TC10/TC11 Summer School" is intended to become the prime educational
activity of IAPR TC11 (Reading Systems) and TC10 (Graphics Recognition). The
School is meant to be a training activity where participants are exposed to the
latest trends and techniques of Reading Systems and Graphics Recognition.
The aim of the School is to provide both an objective and clear overview and an
in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art research in selected topics of
Reading Systems and Graphics Recognition. The School should aim to provide a
stimulating opportunity for young researchers and Ph.D. students in the field.
Individuals and groups who are interested in Reading Systems and Graphics
Recognition are invited to submit proposals for organizing and hosting the 2016
IAPR TC10 / TC11 Summer School.
It is expected that proposers familiarise themselves with the guidelines for
organising the School first, to fully plan their bid. The Guidelines can be
found at the TC11 Web site:
http://www.iapr-tc11.org/mediawiki/index.php/Guidelines_for_Organising_and_Biddi
ng_to_Host_the_TC10_/_TC11_Summer_School
The submission of a bid implies full agreement with the rules and procedures
for organising the School. Proposals should be sent to:
Koichi Kise, TC-11 Chair, kise@cs.osakafu-u.ac.jp
Rafael Lins, TC-10 Chair, rdl@ufpe.br
Dimosthenis Karatzas, TC-11 Vice Chair, dimos@cvc.uab.es
The (extended) deadline for submitting written proposals is July 15.

*** The deadline for receiving applications is June 29 2015, at 15.00 ***
The Position
The Computer Vision Centre at the Universitat
Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), is offering a 4 year PhD studentship on Robust
Reading Systems for Scene Interpretation. The position is linked to the
Document Analysis and the
Learning and Machine Perception research groups.
The aim of the project is to devise efficient camera based methods for scene
text recognition (robust reading) that exploit various types of visual,
linguistic, textual and user context within a wider scene interpretation
framework. A primary goal of the project is the improvement of scene text
recognition in wearable camera application scenarios. The successful candidate
will research the potential of inference over graphical models for holistic
scene interpretation incorporating multimodal sources of information.
Candidates must accredit that they hold university-awarded Masters degree or
equivalent at the time of signing the contract (October 2015, anticipated).
Candidates cannot already hold a doctoral degree.
The duration of the position is 4 years (48 months). The funding for each
contract will be of EUR 20.500,00 (minimum gross salary for each candidate:
EUR 16.422,00). For those candidates defending their thesis during the 3rd
year, the funding for the fourth year contract will be EUR 25.000,00 (minimum
gross salary for each candidate: EUR 19.000,00). The grant includes EUR 4.750
funding for research stays carried out during the pre-doctoral stage and
EUR 1.500,00 funding for PhD tuition fees. The foreseen starting date of the
studies is October, 1st 2015.
Workplace
The successful candidate will join the research staff of the Computer Vision
Centre ( http://www.cvc.uab.es/). The Computer Vision
Centre (CVC) is an internationally renowned centre devoted to research and
applications of computer vision. The CVC is home to over 120 staff members and
PhD students, and is a member of the Catalan Association of Research Centres
(CERCA) and one of the recognised centres TECNIO of the Catalan government.
The thesis will be supervised by
