First I would like to join in the congratulations of the recipients of this year's ICDAR Awards. Réjean Plamondon will receive the IAPR/ICDAR Outstanding Achievements Award and Dimosthenis Karatzas the IAPR/ICDAR Young Investigator Award (read more below). Furthermore, let me draw your attention to the final program of ICDAR 2013 that has been announced recently. After an open call for nominations that was distributed via the ICDAR, TC-10, and TC-11 mailing lists, the ICDAR Awards Committee was faced with the challenging task of choosing the winners from among the strong candidates. We are pleased to announce that the winner of the ICDAR Outstanding Achievements Award is Professor Réjean Plamondon "for theoretical contributions to the understanding of human movement and its applications to signature verification, handwriting recognition, instruction, and health assessment, and for promoting on-line document processing in numerous multidisciplinary fields." As per tradition, Professor Plamondon will deliver a keynote lecture at ICDAR 2013. We are also pleased to announce that the winner of the ICDAR Young Investigator Award is Dr. Dimos Karatzas "for outstanding service to the ICDAR community in a variety of roles, as well as innovative research in human perception-based document analysis."
