As we work through our backlog of Calls for Papers and Proposals, we encourage you to inform us of other upcoming conferences and meetings that may be of interest to members of the TC11 community. Note the approaching deadline for ICDAR 2013 hosting proposals. If you are curious or have questions, please contact the ICDAR Advisory Board (see the announcement below). Information on managing your subscription to the TC11 mailing list is included at the end of this message. If you know of colleagues in the field who are not on our list, we encourage you to have them sign up. With warm regards, Prof. Daniel Lopresti, IAPR-TC11 Chair lopresti@cse.lehigh.edu Prof. Koichi Kise, IAPR-TC11 Vice Chair kise@cs.osakafu-u.ac.jp ============================================================================ ============================================================================ INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DOCUMENT ANALYSIS AND RECOGNITION (ICDAR) CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO HOST ICDAR 2013 Deadline: June 1, 2009 Submission Method: email to lopresti@cse.lehigh.edu ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ICDAR Advisory Board is seeking proposals to host the 12th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, to be held in 2013 (ICDAR 2013). ICDAR is the most important IAPR event in the field of Document Analysis and Recognition, attracting on average 300 to 500 participants. The aim of this conference is to bring together international experts to share their experiences and to promote research and development in all areas of Document Analysis and Recognition. Any consortium interested in making a proposal to host an ICDAR should first familiarise themselves with the "Guidelines for Organizing and Bidding to Host ICDAR" document which is available at: http://www.iapr-tc11.org/ICDAR2013_hosting.html The submission of a bid implies full agreement with the rules and procedures outlined in that document. The submitted proposal must define clearly the items specified in the Guidelines (Section 5.2). It has been the tradition that the location of ICDAR conferences follows a rotating schedule among different continents. ICDAR2009 will be held in Barcelona (Europe), and ICDAR2011 will be held in Beijing (Asia). Thus, for ICDAR2013, proposals from the Americas are strongly encouraged. However, high quality bids from other locations will also be considered. Proposals will be examined by the ICDAR Advisory Board. Valid bids will then be presented at the TC10/TC11 joint meeting held during ICDAR2009, where a ballot will be conducted to determine the winning bid. Proposals should be emailed to Dr. Daniel Lopresti at lopresti@cse.lehigh.edu by June 1, 2009. ICDAR Advisory Board: Prof. Wenyin Liu (Chair, TC10) Prof. Daniel Lopresti (Chair, TC11) Dr. Simone Marinai (Chair, IAPR C&M Committee) Prof. Andreas Dengel (Past Organiser) Dr. Apostolos Antonacopoulos (Past Organiser and Editor of ICDAR Guidelines) ============================================================================ ============================================================================ CALL FOR PAPERS ACM 9th Symposium on Document Engineering (DocEng2009), Munich, Germany, 15-18 September 2009 Web site: =================================================================== Document engineering is the computer science discipline that investigates systems for documents in any form and in all media. It is concerned with principles, tools and processes that improve our ability to create, manage and maintain documents. The ACM Symposium on Document Engineering is an annual meeting of researchers active in document engineering. DocEng 2009 is the ninth edition, after previous annual meetings at Sa~o Paulo (Brazil), Winnipeg (Canada), Amsterdam (NL), Bristol (UK), Milwaukee-WI (USA), Grenoble (France), McLean-VA (USA) and Atlanta-GA (USA). All DocEng Proceedings are available at the ACM Digital Library. DRR is an international conference focusing on state-of-the-art research in document recognition and retrieval. The conference is part of the IS&T/SPIE Electronic Imaging Symposium, a multiconference bringing together researchers from a variety of backgrounds relating to electronic imaging, image processing, and image analysis. The conference will include oral/poster presentations and invited talks. Accepted papers will be published in DRR Proceedings. For the fourth year, the Best Student Paper will be selected among papers whose first authors are full-time students. Its broad scope includes advances in fundamental pattern recognition techniques relevant to biometrics, new algorithms and / or technologies for biometrics, analysis of specific applications, and analysis of the social impacts of biometrics technology. Areas of coverage include biometrics based on voice, fingerprint, iris, face, handwriting, gait and other modalities, as well as multi-modal biometrics and new biometrics based on novel sensing technologies. Submissions will be rigorously reviewed, and should clearly make the case for a documented improvement over the existing state of the art. Experimental results for contributions in established areas such as voice, face, iris, fingerprint, and gait are encouraged to use the largest and most challenging existing publicly available datasets. Papers examining the usability of and social impact of biometrics technology are encouraged. Paper submission: May 31. Decisions to authors: July 17.
