[dec-2002-tc-11-newsletter] Date: 12/13/2002 07:30 PM Dear TC-11 member, the end of the year usually exhibits properties of a systolic process, with a surge of news items as a consequence. * The current ICDAR Advisory Board (i.e., the general advisory board for this conference series, which is not specifically related to ICDAR 2003) currently consists of: prof. dr. Andreas Dengel (previous ICDAR organizer) dengel@dfki.uni-kl.de dr. Josep Llado's (chair of TC-10) josep@cvc.uab.es prof. dr. Lambert Schomaker (chair of TC-11) schomaker@ai.rug.nl The role of the advisory board is to watch a current ICDAR organisation process from a distance. Remarks and questions can be sent to members of this board. * We welcome Paolo Gamba as the new chair TC-7 on "Remote Sensing" [see attachment] * Events & Conferences: - GbR'03 - 4th IAPR-TC15 Workshop on Graph-based Representations 30/6 - 2/7/2003, York, UK Organized by IAPR TC-15 Paper Submission: February 1, 2003 http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/~erh/gbr/ - CAIP 2003 - 10th International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns Groningen, The Netherlands - August 25-27, 2003 Supported by the IAPR Submission deadline: 14 February 2003 http://caip.cs.rug.nl - IEEE Workshop on Learning in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (In conjunction CVPR 2003) Submission deadline : Februari 7, 2003 http://www.eecs.tulane.edu/Peng/cvpr03-wkshop.html - VSCA 2003 - Workshop on Computer Vision System Control Architectures March 31, 2003 - Graz, Austria In conjunction with ICVS 2003 Deadline for abstract submission: January 15, 2003 http://dib.joanneum.at/wapcv2003 * Job vacancies: - Open Post-Doctoral Position at The Biomedical Imaging Group at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) Contact: philippe.thevenaz@epfl.ch .......................................................................... All the best for now, with special thanks to IAPR secretary Karl Tombre for collecting these items. Lambert ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear IAPR member, as you may know, I have been recently appointed as Chair of IAPR Technical Committee 7 "Remote Sensing". TC7 aims at promoting the use of pattern recognition methods in the analysis of data collected from satellites or airborne sensors used for Earth observation. It tries to encompass researchers that do not necessarily work in the main stream pattern recognition or methodology development, but are focused in the particular application. Often these researchers employ pattern recognition methodologies and present their results in conferences and workshops aimed at the remote sensing community So, I would like to invite you to join TC7 and its activities. Please, consider carefully this invitation: a larger community inside IAPR related to Remote Sensing may help in promoting more events, and foster connections with other societies, like IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, and ISPRS. The connections among the pattern recognition world and remote sensing data analysis are becoming stronger and stronger, and our work, even if sometimes out of the mainstream of pattern recognition methodologies, is becoming more and more important. If you share this viewpoint, and would like to contribute to this committee's work, you are welcome to join us, by simply sending an e-mail to tc7@ele.unipv.it If you need more information, further data on TC7 and its activities may be found at the web address http://www.iapr-tc7.org I look forward to hearing from you soon. Paolo Gamba TC7 Chair
